  2. I like how you take your ipad to your centre and your contribution helped to enhance children's ICT skills. I believe that it is a challenge for you to see the reality of how focused the children are when they are handling your ipad or any ict tools, It is nice of you to share and give them opportunities to express their knowledge and skills with digital ict tools. I can see your supporting them as well as challenging and also learning from them. Communication skills in Te whariki stated children develop confidence and ability in expressing thoughts and feeling effectively and appropriately.(Ministry of Education.1996). I agree that Pre-school settings of ict learning skills will open door for educators and parents that have low digital ict skills to help children's learning. I believe it will help Pre-school centre to plan, assess and evaluate the good and bad, is it worth it and also look at the health and safety of the children. In exploring the physical environment, children gain increasing motor and control and skills in using tools and materials safety(Ministry of Education,p.98.1996).

  3. Hi Mehreena, I think bringing in your iPad for children to use in the centre is wonderful and it shows that you want children to have meaningful and fun learning experiences – tino pai to mahi! Not only will the children learn problem solving skills by using the iPad, they will also develop their creativity and learn how to take turns (Ministry of Education, 1996). I’m impressed by the fact that children at your centre are using Skype and FaceTime to video chat with either their families or friends. This is important as you are connecting children’s learning to their home experiences (Arthur, Beecher, Death, Dockett & Farmer, 2007). It’s also a great way for parents and whanau to keep up to date with their children’s daily experiences at the centre while they are either at work or away from home. I hope to introduce this to my centre in the future, when we have the sufficient tools and resources. We have a computer for the children but it does not have a webcam. I really liked the non-ICT and digital devices you mentioned and I believe they should all be used by early childhood centres. I strongly agree with you that physical activities outdoors is important for children to experience as they enhance their learning and physical development. “Play outdoors develops friendships, reduces social isolation and gives children a sense of autonomy and control, all important features of physical well-being” (Tovey, 2007 as cited in Greenfield, 2012, p.126).
